This meteorite was found in Mojave County, Arizona, in an area of arroyos
draining the White Hills. The discovery was made by Professor Jim Kriegh
(UAz, emeritus) while prospecting for gold with a metal detector. The
initial date of the fine was November 24, 1995. As of November 1997, 1484
stones have been recovered, with a total mass of 61.0 kilograms. The largest
individual stone has a mass of 1.52 kilograms. It has been determined that this
is an old fall, approximately 20 to 25 thousand years ago, due to the amount of
weathering. I wonder how many times a prospector looking for gold, got a buzz
on his metal detector and then tossed the pesky rock away not knowing what he had.
The bulk of the mass collected is with Jim Kriegh and his fellow collectors.
